I found out today that Nayeli’s dad has started the attack. Now there is a war. I hope the rest of my family comes back. I will find out when we are in France again. That is far away and if they do come back, we still won’t see them for a couple days. The attack was to early to start and it shouldn’t have been started.
Tomorrow we are leaving at night time because we have to wait for the ship to get here because it’s coming back from France, again. I don’t know if it’s the same on but I’m pretty sure it is.
Tonight me, Naki, Sari and my mother are going for a long ride in the carriage. We never got to see the whole city and we want to see what it’s like. So we are doing that soon.
I think Nayeli wrote a letter to her dad and I think she asked if any one my family was still alive or something. So hopefully I will be hearing from her soon.
My mom is still crying but we will find out soon enough and maybe they will come back. I just think as it of a normal day because he’s usually gone anyways. The only person I ever see in my family anyways is my mom, Sari and Naki. We all have a great time together but I wish I could see the rest of the family.
Tonight after the ride I might be going to see Nayeli for the last time at the dock. Naki’s just coming with me this time. He’s always paranoid that I’m going to get hurt or something so he’s usually with me when he’s not gone. She said she got me something but I don’t know what, I will see when I get there, if her mom lets her out again.
My mom keeps asking me what I want to do but I don’t know what she means. She is really confusing me.
When we get back to France, my mom promised me that she would take me to the art museum. I can’t wait. There are really nice things there. Like paintings, sculptures, knight suits, stain glass and they somehow play music that has just been made. It’s very colourful there. I only saw pictures of the things, but not the sculptures. I only saw pictures of pictures that are in there. But I never saw all them. They are really good. I wish I could so something like that. There are also pictures of dinosaurs and also some skeletons of them. They were really big. It’s amazing. I never thought I would see something like that before. You can buy the pictures but it’s a lot of money and the sculptures are usually outside of the building, they would be attached to them. Lots are just re-makes from other buildings. Also you can go up to the bell tower. That’s where a guy goes up there every day in the morning and night and pulls a rope to ring the warning bells for bed time and work time. Sometimes it gets really annoying. I heard something about it that the guy up there lives up there because his dad used to torture him and he got taken away from him mom. His dad is one of the rich people. He usually has one of his dads people to go up there and feed him and stuff. I don’t know if that’s true but that’s harsh and rude if it is. But one day I want to go up there. That would be cool. There is like 100 bells up there.
But anyways I have to go, I got to get some things together before I leave tomorrow and clean the house.
Au revoir! (Bye!)
Adeline.

When I went to go see Nayeli this after noon, she wasn’t there so me, Naki and Sari went fishing for a while. There were a couple people who came back that we knew down the river but not our family. We asked them but they said they didn’t see them. That is not a good sign. After a bit, Nayeli showed up. She came fishing for a bit and told me what her dad said to her. She seemed pretty sad that I was leaving. She wanted to come with us but I said “No.” She was sad but we had fun, we played with the fish and went swimming. Naki and Sari were laughing at us lots. I flipped the canoe too! That was funny. Good thing it was only me in it. Nayeli was swimming beside it and same with Naki and Sari. It was fun. I had a great time. Then after that we went and looked in some stores. There were lots of things in there. And after that we went and watch the sun set again in the carriage and went for a long horse ride. But after that Nayeli had to leave because it was only her and her sister at home because her mom and dad were in the city, she had to go to bed early so she can wake up early to do lots of chores. I think that her sister and her new boyfriend are getting married. That’s good. But her mom still doesn’t know yet.Anyways, I had a great night. It was fun and filled with laughter. I will never forget it. We also saw a crab and starfish, they look weird. Then I threw the starfish on the side of the canoe and it stuck to it, it was funny. The crab we just hit with a stick back into the water and didn’t want to go in the water anymore. Naki kept on saying funny things and making jokes, we couldn’t stop laughing and Sari tripped over a log, that was funny too.
But I have to go, its supper time.

Surprise! Last night my sister and brother took me to see the sun set. It was so nice. The view was awesome. We sat there for a long time till the sun was gone. I never saw anything like it. I guess they found out what was happening. So they wanted to take me somewhere to see something I never saw before. I would never be able to see that in France. So we are leaving in a couple days so we try and pack what we can, find out if anyone’s coming back and leaving. If they don’t come back before we leave, there will be another boat for them to take back. But if anything they aren’t coming back. It’s very sad but someone who wants their land can have it now because everyone is leaving, he started it too soon and killed to many people that cared to us. I still don’t know what colonization means but I think I got it now after what has happened. I won’t be able to write as much maybe never because there is going to be lots of work if they don’t come back. I wouldn’t be staying at home all the time like I used to but I guess my mom still is. There is only going to be my brother, sister, my mom and me. My mom is really sad. She hasn’t been doing lots because she didn’t want to loose her young sons. She still has one thing to be happy about, that Naki and me didn’t go. That is a good thing. After she found out what has been happening, she’s been saying sorry and giving us hugs all the time and that she’s grateful that were still with her. I am sad to but not as much, I never saw them as much because they were always out hunting and fishing. When we get back to France, we will be getting a telegraph and they will be telling us what has happened to them. But I am going down to the lake.

Today Nayeli came. But her parents came and got her. She says they don’t deserve her but they do! It’s the French’s fault for colonizing on their land. So in about a week we are going back to France, my mom hasn’t made up her mind. My brothers and dad aren’t back so I don’t know what to do. I don’t know the truth if they started attacking or not. If they are not home in a couple days we are leaving for sure. Even though Nayeli wants me to stay, I have to go. I am part of my colony and I have to stay in that colony. I been having a great time here but is still haven’t been that long. I will still be able to write just not as much when I’m back in France. We will be doing lots of work because there won’t be any other people to do it like my dad and 2 other brothers. I didn’t like that idea and Nayeli’s dad shouldn’t have started it. I am really worried but I will know what happened soon enough. Hopefully nothing happened or the came home early.
Soon Naki and I are going down to the lake to go fishing, and some how patch up the hole in the canoe. We might just build another one. Then we are going to go for a horse ride somewhere. I don’t know where though. It’s me, my sister, and Naki going. They said they wanted to show me something. So I guess I’m going to see something tonight. I been bagging them to tell me but its not working.
This morning I got up and remembered to ask my brother that question, so I did. And he was silent. That’s not a good sign.
Well we are going now. I’ll tell you about it tomorrow. Or maybe even tonight!

Yesterday was fun; I had a great time with Nayeli. We went swimming, we had a great lunch and breakfast but Algoma, mean! She wouldn’t stop laughing at me or calling me names and saying I should leave and never come back. Then we were about to go leave from swimming and this boy came, he was rude to, not to me but Nayeli. She says that he always bugs her. Some people here are rude. But at least I had a great time.
After all that I went home because my dad came and got me. Then we went home and my brothers and dad left for hunting. When they get back, they said they would bring me for a canoe ride to the fur trade. But we have to take 2 canoes. One of my brothers and me, Naki, go in one and my dad and my other brother, Leslie and Kay go in the other. Naki is funny. He always has jokes about something. Even if it’s rude, people still laugh. He’s always happy and jumping around. Leslie is quiet. But he laughs lots at Naki. Him and my dad are always together. Kay is funny too. Him and Leslie and with my dad all the time, And Naki always helps me with stuff and he always plays with me when he’s here and not working. Same with my sister, Sari, she is a little bit like my brother, Naki. Naki is 17, Kay is 15 and Leslie is 14. Sari is 19. They are all fun to be around.
But I got to go, time to go eat!

Yesterday when I went to Nayeli’s, her mom wouldn’t let my brother or me in to see Nayeli. So she don’t know I came. I saw her today and we talked but then her mom came and got her. Something bad is going to happen. I know it. Even if I want it to or not, its happening. Right now. I am so scared that my brothers and fathers won’t come back. If they do they should be back tomorrow. Hope they leave before the attack starts.Last night after Naki and me came back from Nayeli’s, we went to the lake and watched the sun set. It was so nice. Then we had a water fight. That was fun. We also went fishing. I caught a big fish. But I threw it at Naki. It was funny. But I really wish Nayeli were there. Her mom was being mean. I don’t know what’s wrong with us. Maybe my brother knows. I’ll go ask him later.
I think Nayeli might be coming here tomorrow though. I want to go swimming again. But I don’t know yet I haven’t talked to her it a while. But she said she was going to see if she could come tomorrow. Hopefully she does because I don’t know what to do anymore, Naki and me cleaned the whole house and it’s too clean. I think all that’s left is to wash the clothes. I think I am going to go do that tonight. But I am going to get my mom to come with me this time. Then we can go on a horse ride too. That’s how we get down to the lake, sometimes. That’s if we need to be quick and don’t want to walk. We also don’t want to carry the clothing so we just stick it in the basket on the horse. I usually ride on the front. We got another horse and a carriage but we just usually take one because its to much work just to hook up the horses and put the carriage on just for a couple pieces of clothing. It’s quicker just to take one horse because you can get there and back quicker too.
But I am going to go, I’m going to ask my brother that question then go down to wash clothes.

Today I found out that I can’t go to the fur trading post. There are to many things happening and to many people going. Also Naki stayed with me at home. So I’m happy about that. This morning Nayeli rushed to me and told me that she over heard her dad talking to her mom that he is going to plan an attack against the French. My colony. I don’t know what happens when people try to colonize but I’m hearing its bad and we might have to go back to France in the next couple days if the attack does happen. I hope it don’t because that wouldn’t be good. Maybe that’s why her mom told her to watch out. I know I won’t do anything.
Later on I might be going to her house or we might be going outside to go for a walk. I don’t know if her dad or mom will let me go there now after her dad said that. But her dad is also leaving today because the post is getting really busy.
I shouldn’t have told my dad and brothers to go. They are part of the French colony and I don’t want anything to happen to them. Good thing Naki stayed but I’m worried about my other brothers and dad. We only been here for a couple weeks and an attacking has already been planned. That’s not good. I don’t want anything to happen. But we will probably be going back to France soon. But if our colony colonizes here I don’t know what that means but we will be staying here if that happens. That’s all my brother told me. But I didn’t tell anyone about the attack so how they are prepared if anything does happen.
But I got to go now. Naki is going to come with me to Nayeli’s house.

I have just arrived in Canada yesterday. It looks really nice here. Tomorrow there is going to be a town festival. I never been to one before. I wonder what they are like and I wonder if i meet anybody. That would be great. Because then I would have friends there. Just hope nothing bad happens. That wouldn’t be good. But so far we are doing good. Almost everything’s unpacked and we got some gift baskets from people around us. There aren’t very many English people though. There are lots of Natives. Not that our colony came here, its almost all French! Well I do have friends just not many, they are all from France. Tonight there is a festival and we got invited. Its for the city. I also might meet a girl names Nayeli. I don’t know what people are like here so I don’t know what’s going to happen. Also we found out that there was a fur trade post up the river.
I can’t wait until tonight, I never been to a festival before. But I heard you do lots, like dance and there is going to be a fire and lots more. We didn’t have much like that in France. We just had to work all the time. Here you can take a day off a week. That’s awesome because then my sister can take a break and spend more time with us. I found out that no one works on special occasions. But I only know a couple.
Tomorrow I think my brothers and dad are going back out hunting and fishing. Then they said they might bring me to the fur trading post. I love canoe rides. When I have spare time, I take our canoe down to the lake and go for a ride. That was in France though. I don’t know if I will be able to do that here because it’s a city and we lived in a town, I think I might have to stay with someone at all times. Oh well, my mom can come with me. She likes canoeing too. We used to go almost every night. But I don’t know about now, we have lots to do and I don’t think we have time. We still have to un-pack some of our things and we have to get settled in. Our colony is really big so were spread out all over the city. Lots of times all the men get together and go hunting. Sometimes the girls get together too but we don’t do lots. We just do our everyday things. Like what we do at home.
But I got to go now. It’s time to go to the fair.

Tomorrow we are going to be leaving for Quebec City. I wonder what its like there. So this is going to be my second and last post in France. I will be writing when I am in Canada still. It will take us a day or 2 to get there. There is going to be lots of people going. We have just finished building the ship and it’s big. There are going to be lots of people on it. Lots of people I know but lots of people our parents know. And they are all from France. Actually it’s just the French colony going.
I wonder what we are going to be doing on the first day. Some people who went there already said it was nice. I can’t wait to see it. But we might have to move back. We are going to be travelling all the way to Quebec. But we have to travel through a big river some of the way. I wonder if I will see any fish or anything. I will have to do some boat work to though on the way. But not lots because I’m not old and strong enough. Well I think I have to. That’s what my dad told me unless I just do things for the family just like at home just without going to the lake and getting water, I would have to send a bucket down off the side attached to rope. Just hopefully I don’t let go. That’s if I don’t forget the bucket or rope. I wonder how many people would be mad at me. I should grab those tonight so I DON’T forget.
But I got to go. Time to go get water. Then get ready to go.
Adeline.
